Forces of Tomorrow Youth culture and identity in the British Hashomer Hatzair movementwritten by Jim Gledhill of the School of Art History, University of St Andrews, is a fascinating essay that throws light on the UK side of the story of a pioneering Israeli and global group. Historically Hashomer Hatzair helped develop the kibbutz system to an extraordinary degree. The group also underpinned the Mapam Party… and now forms a key strand of Meretz and all its offshoots  and affiliates around the world, including Meretz UK. Hashomer Hatzair Trust is a vital backer of Meretz UK events and programmes.

The essay first appeared in the Journal of Modern Jewish Studies in February 2015; it can now be found on the new Hashomer Hatzair UK website; and also here! In addition a copy is deposited at Givat Haviva’s Yad Ya’ari Research and Documentation Centre. Special thanks for Ivor Tzvi Stilitz for bringing this to our attention.
